Hope Amidst Floods: Relief Distribution, Community Struggles, and a Call for Long-Term Rehabilitation in Daad Village, Palatan

Recently, the village of Daad in Panchayat Palatan faced severe flooding after days of heavy rainfall. Water entered homes, destroyed crops, and damaged essential belongings such as books, school uniforms, household appliances, and even daily food supplies. Families have been forced to live in unhygienic conditions, with stagnant water spreading foul smell, mosquitoes, and health risks for children.

Many residents shared their pain — children are unable to attend school as their books and uniforms were washed away, crops have been destroyed, and livelihoods disrupted. Parents worry about their children’s education and health, while households struggle to find clean drinking water and dry shelter.

Despite the hardships, administration, local panchayat leaders, and the community stepped in during the floods, evacuating people to safety. But ten days later, residents say their promises of long-term relief, drainage solutions, and replacement of school materials are still unfulfilled.

Amidst this, our NGO “Hum Saath Saath Hain”, led by Mannu Verma and team, visited the village with relief support. Along with the help of generous contributors, we distributed:

  • Dry ration & essential food items
  • Blankets and bedsheets
  • Chairs and other household supplies
  • Bakery and grocery support from local shopkeepers

Our team has been visiting the affected families regularly, not just once. We strongly believe that disaster relief must rise above politics, religion, or party lines — it’s about humanity first.

Local leaders such as Sarpanch Geeta Devi also joined us on the ground and emphasized the urgent need for a permanent drainage system. Without it, Daad remains water-locked every monsoon, making agriculture and daily life impossible. Families are also demanding resettlement plots, similar to other flood-hit regions, so they can build safe homes for their children’s future.

What the Community is Asking For

  • Immediate replacement of damaged school books and uniforms so children can return to school.
  • Drainage system construction to prevent waterlogging.
  • Safe plots or resettlement in flood-free areas.
  • Support for crop loss and loans repayment.
  • Relief from mounting electricity bills despite being flood-affected.

Our Appeal

We thank all individuals, shopkeepers, and community members who joined hands with us in this relief drive. But the struggle of Daad’s families is far from over. They need long-term government action, not just temporary promises.

We appeal to the authorities to urgently provide safe housing, restore children’s education, and ensure that such tragedies do not repeat every monsoon.

At Hum Saath Saath Hain, we remain committed to standing by our people — in disasters, in weddings of underprivileged daughters, and in every hardship where humanity calls. Together, we can rebuild lives.

Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.
